Lindsay Hopkins Weld
Living near the ocean, I am constantly aware of the elements. My current work is an exploration of this environment: the interaction of land, sea and sky. The relentless cycle of the tides and the sea's ever changing moods serve as inspiration. My paintings capture the physical and emotional energy which surrounds me. I strive to depict the essence, beauty and vibrancy of place and the fleeting moment in time. My subject is color, the play of light and shadow, the relationship of shapes and their subtle interaction. I like to both exaggerate and simplify what I see. I'm mostly interested in conveying a sense of place and exploring the boundary between realism and abstraction. My hope is that in viewing these moments I strike an emotional chord and time pauses.
