Painting, for me, presents an opportunity to capture specific moments in time that link to something larger. Memory certainly, but also to a larger physical or emotional landscape. Each painting is an iterative process, never really finished until it creates a kind of a portal, and even when "finished" a work will sometimes nag it's way back to the easel until it irresolutely clicks as done. In this way, painting reminds me of the writing Process. Sometimes it flows and sometimes a piece will need what feels like endless revisions. Right now I think about the moments I have experienced in remote settings that slow me down, center me, and create a sense of life wonder. Sharing those moments so that perhaps they will create similar ones for others is a goal of mine as an artist.
