Writing, illustrating, and binding (with tape and cardboard) my first “artist’s book” at a very young age, I have always been happiest when creating something. Initially drawn to printmaking—silkscreen and, later, intaglio—I also explored oil painting and sculpture. Then I discovered watercolor, with its luminous hues and wonderful papers. Exuberance, lushness, playfulness, and awe are some of the qualities I hope to evoke when painting nature especially flowers, plein-air or in the studio—as well as beloved objects in still lifes and other subjects. Although my professional life was centered in arts publishing, notably 35-plus years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, I have been painting in watercolor for over 25 years; my works have been exhibited in several juried shows and are in a number of private collections. Now retired from my “official” career, I focus on my own creative work, travel, reading, and gardening in North Sandwich, New Hampshire.
