Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery exhibits work in all media by both emerging and established artists. The gallery originally opened in Washington, DC in 1983. It re-opened in Sandwich in 2002. An eclectic collection of contemporary art includes works on paper, sculpture, painting, monotypes, prints and objects.
The direction of the gallery has always been to exhibit unique contemporary art. Technique, originality and "something deeper" not easily defined, figure in our collection. Color, composition, subject and texture all are components in painting or sculpture. How one reacts and converses with a piece makes a collector and art lover.
Patricia Ladd Carega is the owner and director of the gallery. Inspired early in life by an art collecting, family, it was not a big step into a fascination with Art History. A year in Florence studying at the University fueled her ongoing interests in the creative world both past and present. Early married life took her back across the Atlantic to Rome and then Paris. Visits to art galleries, museums, and long walks around these cities reinforced her passion and respect for the applied arts.
After Rome, Paris, Washington and Miami, how did the gallery get to Sandwich, NH? A magnificent barn with soaring space begged to show contemporary work. The structure, completed in 1825, is a masterpiece in itself as is the view of the Ossipee Mountains from the second floor loft.
Hopefully a visit to the gallery is an educational as well as a visual adventure It’s a genuine pleasure to be a destination for art lovers from all corners of the USA who find their way to Sandwich and even more of a pleasure to supply clients with work that will be a part of their lives for many years.
